In Jesus’ day, the Jews were waiting; were wondering when God would send a “King” to save them from the oppression of the Romans. Because they were looking – perhaps -they ‘tuned in’ to the message of a strange “preacher” who wandered in the wilderness near the Jordan River. John- the ‘baptizer’ – was challenging people to repent so the would be prepared for the coming savior. The people responded, but the rulers, the ‘establishment’ was not nearly as keen to turn from their ways. Pastor Dan’s sermon showed that John’s message is a valid for us today as it was for the Jews in Jesus’ day. [Link]
